How Should I Punish Him?

I love being married to my best friend.  My husband loves me and makes me laugh and texts me throughout the day to let me know he's thinking about me.  But every once in a while I want to shake him and ask WTF?

My husband has a seasonal company and March through November he works his ass off, even working a few hours on Saturdays most weekends, and he still works December through February but usually 2-3 days a week.  While I am obviously jealous and would love slack hours through winter (although I would not work weekends in the summer!!) he gets very bored and impatient and wants to be working.  But the fact is he's not busy right now.

So this past Sunday I spent the afternoon doing laundry, cleaning up the kitchen, prepping dinner for Monday night and getting everything organized so Monday wouldn't be so stressful.  I folded all the clean laundry and packed it up in the basket to be brought up on Monday because I was just too damn lazy to deal with it that night.

I got up on Monday, fed the furbies, turned on the dishwasher and headed to work.  Hubby has the day off.  He advises me he found a new talk show (the Chew?) and is having a pretty chill day.  Now I didn't expect anything but I kind of assumed - and this is obviously where I went wrong - that he would do a couple things seeing as he was home and I worked all day. Nope!  I got home to find the laundry basket still sitting in front of the stairs, the dishwasher clean and full (with a pile of dirty dishes stacked neatly next to it) and no evidence of dinner being started - which included turning on the oven and inserting the dish?!

I was pretty shocked. But I didn't say anything.  Because I don't know if I should?  We have our "duties" divided as in-house and out-house, and trade off for meals throughout the week.  We also have a cleaning come every two weeks to do a thorough clean.  I clean up the kitchen in the evening, load and empty the dishwasher, do the laundry, etc. and he takes out the garbage and recycling and takes care of whatever needs to be done with the lawn, gardens, etc.  So everything he didn't do were technically all my responsibility, but wouldn't it be nice to help out your partner when you have all the time in the world?  Am I being selfish?  It's not like I would head out and mow the lawn if he was stuck working all weekend, it would just wait until he had time.

How would you feel if it were you?  Do I let him enjoy his lazy time or do subtly punish him until he sees the error of his ways?

  1. it depends really on my mood. Sometimes I just let it go but sometimes I let him have it. It caught to a point where we broke up all the family duties and equal things to do.
